Mauna Lani Resort Walking - Mauna Lani Resort offers wonderful walks of anywhere from 2 - 5 miles, depending on how far you would like to venture. Here is a favorite loop that passes along the beach, has mountain views, and gives you a tour of the lagoons:
The "Big Loop" (3.5 - 4 miles) starts at the Shops at Mauna Lani, heads to the Fairmont Orchid Hotel (with a fun detour to the right to go through the Holoholokai Beach Park). Then go left along the beach trail, past the Fairmont Orchid Hotel, past the Mauna Lani Hotel, and along the board walk to the Mauna Lani Beach. From there, you can pass through the lagoons, which have a wonderful walking path. Then take a right through the historic park, and back to the main road which leads you to the Shops where you began.
Mauna Kea Beach to Hapuna Beach Hike - One of our favorite short hikes (2 - 2.5 miles) begins at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel "beach" parking. Drive to the Mauna Kea Hotel. (go early, like 7:30 am to get a spot to park). At the entry gate to the hotel, let me know you want a pass to park at their beach. With pass in hand, find a parking spot in the designated areas. Then head down to the beach and take a hard left to find the signs for the "Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail." Follow the trail to Hapuna Beach and back for a wonderful, albeit short, venture.
